If you are getting dropped off by vehicle, the closest accessible dropoff point will be 16th St & T St NW. Anticipate heavy foot and vehicle traffic in the area and plan accordingly.

Metro Stops at end of parade:
Federal Triangle: near 12th and Penn (Blue, Orange, Silver)
Metro Center: G St NW and 12th NW (Red, Blue, Orange, Silver)
Tech: Ensure that your mobile devices are fully charged.
Bring lots of water to stay hydrated!!
Sun protection: Wear sunscreen, sunglasses and/or other UV protective gear.
Recommended Footwear: comfortable/sturdy walking shoes (unstructured footwear such as flip flops are not recommended)
What to wear: All lay participants must wear our Capital UMC Pride t-shirt. Clergy are encouraged to wear a stole or a “dickie/janie” collar with the Capital UMC Pride t-shirt but may alternatively wear a collared shirt with no branding. We will have extra t-shirts at the float for those who didn’t already get their t-shirt or need to swap their shirt for a different size. The common branding helps us be able to register multiple churches in 1 contingent rather than each church having to register individually and pay the $500+ registration fees.
Your First Amendment Rights: no group or individual has the right to prevent your voice from being heard. Anticipate potential disruptions at the Parade. Do not engage with protesters.
DEEPER DIVE
Parade Location:
Begin at 14th and T Streets NW (Metro: Green Line/U Street)
End at 14th St and Pennsylvania Ave NW (Metro: Blue/Orange/Silver at Federal Triangle, Red Line/Metro Center)
Map of the parade route for your reference: https://www.capitalpride.org/parade-festival-resources/ (Capital Pride Alliance should upload the map there soon–in the meantime, you can access the parade route in the PowerPoint presentation from the Parade Orientation)
The parade route is 1.4 miles (.4 mi shorter than the last 2 years). There will be no restroom facilities available along the inside of the parade route. Foundry UMC (16th and P Streets NW) will be open before the parade and portable facilities will be available along 15th Street in the staging areas.
Guidance for participation: Each UMC organization is responsible for their group members. Participants need to be able to remain outdoors for 3+ hours in hot weather. Participants must obey directions from safety marshals.
Children are welcome. Consider a stroller even if your child(ren) might not be using it much anymore. Only children with disabilities will be allowed to ride in the float (and will require a guardian to supervise them there). Please note this is a celebratory event for LGBTQ+ people and a time for individuals to share the fullness of who they are.
Tech: Ensure that your mobile devices are fully charged when you arrive and consider bringing a backup power source. Also note that there will be a lot of cell traffic in the parade area and this may create network overload. This may limit your ability to send and receive calls/data at the parade.
Bring water to stay hydrated during the parade; we suggest bringing more than you think you will need.
Sun protection: Wear sunscreen, sunglasses and/or other UV protective gear.
What to wear: UMC contingent t-shirt and shorts, comfortable/sturdy walking shoes (unstructured footwear such as flip flops are NOT recommended). Check the forecast for parade day and bring weather-appropriate gear. Clergy are encouraged to wear collars, stoles or other vestments.
End of the parade: Volunteers are requested to assist with tear-down and making the float road-ready.
Your First Amendment Rights: A great deal of planning with local law enforcement organizations has been put in place to keep everyone safe at the parade. The Capital Pride Alliance believes that no group or individual has the right to prevent your voice from being heard and has prepared for potential disruptions at the Parade. As a member of our contingent, do not engage with protesters. If you have safety concerns, speak with a parade marshal, law enforcement officer or call 911.
