2024 Congregation and Communities

In the spring of 2024, the United Methodist Church took historic action toward greater LGBTQ+ inclusion. The denomination’s global legislative body removed 50 years of discriminatory language and practices that targeted the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community. LGBTQ+ individuals are affirmed as God’s beloved children. The door is now open in the United States and elsewhere in the world to marry same sex couples and ordain LGBTQ+ clergy.

As United Methodists in the National Capital region, we enter the 2024 Pride season filled with a renewed sense of hope and joy in the journey to make our churches places that welcome all. The local area United Methodists Churches found below are proud to have been at the forefront in affirming and welcoming LGBTQ+ people, and are excited to witness that spirit of inclusion multiply across our churches.
